- Draw a Detailed Sketch
Create an outline of your church. You can draw it by hand or use design software like AutoCAD for precise measurements.
- Glue the sketch onto the fomica sheet and cut along the marked line
- Build the Tower
Place the popsicle sticks (1 x 11.5 cm) next to each other in a parallel pattern. Use a tiny drop of glue where each stick connects.
*Tips: Remember to cut both rounded ends of these popsicle sticks before doing this task - Decorate the tower with a handcrafted rose window
- Add some highlight details with brown wooden sticks (2.5mm)
*Tips: To create the arched frame, you need to split the wooden sticks into thinner ones. Then gently bend it along the curve and secure with super glue. Do the same with circle frames.
You should have specific measurement of the frames before making them. - Attach the Window Frames
To create the window frames, firstly, you need to split the wooden sticks (2.5mm) in half. You can use sandpaper to smooth them out for a cleaner finish. Then, the sticks must be attached on the inner side to avoid revealing the joints.
- Repeat the process and create 3 more pieces
- Attach these 4 parts to form a tower, place it onto a formica board
- Build the Nave
The process is quite similar to building the tower, but the nave has more windows and additional decorative details. You can also split the wooden stick in half for easier gluing process.
- Add some decorative details to the main door
- Make another rectangular panel with the same measurement, but has two rows of windows
- Make 2 panels in house shape, add details to one of them
- Attach these panels behind the tower to form the nave
- Set up a string light switch outside the church
- Attach the string lights inside
- Build the Roof
Attach the popsicle sticks in parallel onto a rectangular formica board. Decorate with brown wooden sticks in a staggered pattern.
- Secure the roof with glue
- Cover the white formica board with paperwood (wood veneer)
- Arrange the wooden benches in 3 rows
*Tips: You can craft these benches from 2 popsicle sticks and some pieces of wooden sticks for standing
- Use larger popsicle sticks (2 x 15 cm) to create the fence posts
- Place the posts along the perimeter together with the wooden fences
- Decorate the church with miniature pine trees and artificial snow
- Finish!
There you go! You’ve just complete your wooden church model from popsicle sticks! We hope this little project inspires you to get more creative with holiday crafts. Now you can display it on a shelf or by the Christmas tree. It’s sure to bring a cozy and cheerful holiday spirit to your home!
